The European Citizen's Initiative

On the 15th of December 2010, the European Parliament voted on the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Citizens Initiative. The vote passed, with around 94% of MEPs supporting the Citizens Initiative.

Details of Citizens' Initiative vote

The remarkable level of support for the Citizens' Initiative adequately portrays the importance of this new development and the potential for citizens to engage with the EU. For the first time they will be able to begin the process of forming their own proposals for legislation.
