Diana's comments on further allegations made by the Sunday Times yesterday
Commenting on further allegations made by the Sunday Times yesterday in the 'Cash for Laws' row, Diana Wallis MEP, Vice President responsible for transparency, said:
"At his request, I spoke to Spanish MEP, Pablo Zalba, last week. At that time, his case was the subject of correspondence between his lawyers and the Sunday Times. The one-week delay in publication suggests that this case may be in a different category to the first three.
"In the absence of a European Public Prosecutor, it is national prosecutors which are competent in these matters. If they believe that there is evidence to support a case, there is no reason why the Spanish authorities should not intervene, just as is happening in some other instances.
"I can only repeat what I have said throughout as these revelations have been published: we must ensure public trust in the European law making process by achieving the highest standards in public life and in the transparency of the work done in the institution."
