The online 'chat' was hosted by Diana Wallis in her capacity as Chair of E-Ping! (European Parliamentarians Internet Group). Panelists in the forum included representatives from the United States Department of Commerce, the European Commission and the Council of Europe.
"Discussing the topic of the Digital Divide showed the potential of the Internet in exploring possible solutions to problems that are faced all over the world," said Diana Wallis MEP afterwards.
Summing up at the end of the online 'chat', Diana said: "I hope that we will have underscored the EUs interest in the bridging the digital divide and the democratic deficit, and demonstrated our openness to global citizens.
"Many thanks to all our participants and especially our panellists. It has certainly been both an entertaining discussion and an interesting experiment. I believe we have had some helpful exchanges and facilitated some contacts which will hopefully bear results in the future."
