Diana gives keynote speech at the University of Iceland1.50.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 18th Apr 2008
Diana Wallis MEP, Vice President of the European Parliament, gave a speech at the Institute of International Affairs, at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik. The speech 'A reformed EU but still missing Iceland?' looked at a post-Treaty of Lisbon EU, which once reformed as the treaty sets out, will strengthen the European Parliament. Diana Wallis said: "We are reforming the EU, but of course we are still missing Iceland. The EU will welcome the increased engagement from Iceland as set out in the speech by Foreign Minister Gisladottir in January, but can this be a substitute for full membership? "Also, as the EU recently committed to developing an Arctic policy, isn't it a pity that Iceland is not able to play a full part in driving that policy?"
